PELLA — Veterans of Central College athletics came up big last week as three senior student-athletes were named Iowa Conference performers of the week in their respective sports Monday.

Seth Griffiths (senior, Ottumwa) was selected as the league’s baseball position player of the week, Karly Olson (senior, Winterset HS) was picked as the league’s softball pitcher of the week and Brock Morris (senior, Manchester, West Delaware HS) was chosen as the men’s golf performer of the week.

Starting in right field, Griffiths 9-for-18 effort at the plate helped Central go 4-1 in conference games against Luther College and Coe College. He scored five runs and knocked in three more while also walking five times and stealing three bases.

On Tuesday afternoon Central will complete its series against Luther with a single nine-inning game at 3 p.m.

Olson notched victories against conference foes Wartburg College and Simpson College, going the distance in a shutout against the Knights. She was in the circle for 14.0 innings and allowed just one unearned run while striking out 13 batters. She’s now won the league’s weekly honor three times and in consecutive weeks.

Central returns to its home field for a doubleheader against Buena Vista University Wednesday at 3 p.m.

At the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois, Morris was the top Dutch finisher. He tied for fifth with a 70-76—146 effort and was just eight strokes off the lead. Central tied for eighth as a team with 298-314—612.

The Dutch are at the Simpson Spring Invitational for a 36-hole tournament Monday and Tuesday.
