Emil Allen, 89 of New Sharon passed away Saturday morning, April 8, 2017 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Emil Marcus Allen, the son of Ivyl and Adria (Latcham) Allen, was born on August 16, 1927 in Poweshiek County, Iowa.

Emil attended Forest Home Country School and Montezuma School before graduating from New Sharon High School in 1945.

On January 1, 1950, Emil was united in marriage to Hazel Cutshall at the Montezuma United Methodist Church Chapel. To this union three children were born: Barbara, William and Robert.

Emil farmed and raised dairy cattle in the New Sharon area and also worked for Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) for 20 years.

Emil enjoyed square dancing, raising horses, most recently watching football or basketball games and spending time with his grandchildren. Emil was a great conversationalist and loved talking to and meeting new people. He was a faithful member of the Lacey United Methodist Church and attended Men’s Bible Study regularly.

His memory will be cherished by his three children: Barbara (& Verlin) Proctor of Ottumwa, William (& Cynthia Walker) Allen of Urbandale and Robert (& Randee) Allen of Shoreview, MN; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

Emil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel on February 25, 2017; and his sister, Jeannine Clancy.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home with the family present.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon Fire and Rescue.
