Oskaloosa, Iowa – April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Oskaloosa Mayor Dave Krutzfeldt signed a proclamation on Friday advocating for the residents of Oskaloosa to take action to prevent sexual violence.

Sam Keithcorcoran, a representative of Crisis Intervention Services spoke about the importance of the proclamation, that its ability to help raise awareness is important and demonstrates that those in leadership are supportive of victim services and support those that are victims of sexual assault.

Sexual assault is a subject that is often not talked about, and the idea of bringing the subject to public awareness is important, so those victims know there are people out there that are supportive during their time of need.

Keithcorcoran said that victims of sexual assault can reach out to Crisis Intervention Services via phone at their crisis line, 1-800-270-1620 where an advocate is available day or night.

Keithcorcoran said that Crisis Intervention Services have many partnerships in the community that help victims reach out during their time of need. Police officers and medical facilities and schools are just a few of those places, and individuals, that can help victims make that connection.

Crisis Intervention Services covers 12 counties in Iowa and is based out of Oskaloosa. You can find out more by visiting their website at: –
