Professional Season Is A Wrap At George Daily

Members of the OHS band and William Penn band members joined Transit Authority Friday night at George Daily Auditorium.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – And with a bow from Transit Authority and the accompanying Oskaloosa High School band members and a few William Penn music students, the professional season concluded Friday night at George Daily Auditorium.

Jessica Vetter, Operations Manager at George Daily Auditorium said this season “has been really solid.”

The facility celebrated it’s 20th season in the community. “So that’s a pretty exciting milestone,” added Vetter.

Support from the community has meant that ticket projects for the year have been met, even without a broadway production this year.

“I think one of the things that has made this year so successful is that each show had an outreach component with it. It’s really nice we’re able to find groups that they come in and perform for a public show, but they are also in schools working with kids, working with our youth theater. So we’ve got the professionals working hands on with our students,” added Vetter.

That added feature was on display as the Transit Authority Band worked with OHS students as well as some from William Penn and implemented the talents of those students into the final number of the evening.

An added feature for this year, and not part of the regular schedule, will be a visit by the Air Force Band to George Daily on Tuesday, April 25th at 7:30 pm. The concert will be free for the public, and historically those performances fill the auditorium to capacity.

As the end of the season was at hand, and the clean-up for the evening was underway, Vetter shared that work is well underway for the next professional season at the Daily.

“We are still filling in some holes and picking up a couple of dates. We have a few we are signing contracts for this month,” added Vetter. “We are looking at having some musical improv,” said Vetter as an example of upcoming acts for next year.
