Unusually Warm Weather Has Oskaloosa Soaking Up The Sun

William McIntyre enjoys the warm weather on Friday on the square in Oskaloosa.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The thermometer was pushing over the 70 degree mark on Friday, and Oskaloosa and Mahaska county residents were taking full advantage of the warm temps and sunny skies offered up for the weekend.

On Friday around noon, the square in downtown Oskaloosa was buzzing with those seeking some time outside.

One of those enjoying the warm sun and early springtime temperatures was William McIntyre, who purchased a rolling office chair from Mahaska County Outreach and rolled the chair to the square for some relaxation.

McIntyre wasn’t so surprised by the warm weather in February. The Korean War veteran is 86 years-old and remembers similar weather taking place in the 1930’s. “Maybe it’s a little early [for warm temperatures], maybe the Lord is giving us a little break from the cold weather.”

“I feel very fortunate; I’m one that got to come back,” said McIntyre of his military service. “Some of them didn’t. My classmate, he got killed over there a couple of weeks after he got there.”

“I’ve got the privilege of being here, thanks to a little help from above,” said McIntyre as the sun shone down, highlighting the veteran’s face from under his hat.
