Frieda Gray, 94, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday January 31, 2017, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born June 4, 1922, near Knoxville, the daughter of Peter and Henrietta Groenenboom Wouda.
Frieda graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the Class of 1941.
On October 14, 1940, Frieda was united in marriage to John “Clifford” Gray. Clifford died in August of 1972. On January 28, 1978, she married Myrle Akerman and Myrle died October 9, 2010.
Frieda served as the Mahaska County recorder from 1967 until 1986.
Frieda was a member of the Faith Community Church in Eddyville. She held office in the Oskaloosa Women’s Club, was active in the Republican Party, she enjoyed following politics and worked at polling locations during election times. She enjoyed gardening.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Marsha Gray of Eddyville; her son, Alan (& Laura) Gray of Eddyville; a and stepson, David (& Peggy) Akerman of Pensacola, Florida.
Frieda was preceded in death by her husbands: Clifford and Myrle; her parents; a daughter, Linda Gray Gardner; a sister, Florence Rodwell; and two brothers: John and Burtus Wouda.
As was her wish, Frieda’s body has been cremated and no services are planned. Her cremated remains will be buried at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville at a later date. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
