Barnes City, Iowa – In the small rural community that sits on the border of Poweshiek and Mahaska County, word started to spread that one of their own had passed away.

Jasmine Linder, 26, of Barnes City was in a plane piloted by her friend Curt Terpstra, 34, of Pella. Also on board was Linder’s brother Jordan, 35, of Keswick and Krista Green, 37, of Altoona.

The crash is being investigated by the National Traffic Safety Board, but in a video sent to a family member, storm clouds and bad weather were visible.

Leslie Milliken, a friend of the Linders told Oskaloosa News, spoke about the loss. “I guess if I had anything I wanted to say it would be that I was friends with all of them. Separately. I was friends with Jordan and Jasmine and a few years later I met Curt. I have no doubt in my mind that their personalities were instantly drawn to each other. All 3 were very spontaneous and they all enjoyed having fun. Curt was an unbelievable individual. He was giving, generous, and kind. A person couldn’t ask for a better friend. The fact that they were all taken from life together, I’m sure, gives people some comfort as they were in the presence of true friends. They will all be greatly missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to their friends and family.”

Amy Hanson, a friend of Jasmine, spoke about her friend, saying that she was so adventurous. “It’s been harder than I could’ve imagined. I keep trying to think of what she would want me to do.”

Hanson added, “We would spur of the moment make plans. Like, what town do we wanna go check out tonight? I’ve flown with them to the dells that we decided on an hour before we left. Life will never be as much fun.”

A lifelong friend of Curt Terpestra, Brian Thomas, told Oskaloosa News, “I’m an avid outdoorsman. Curt helped me harvest my first pheasant and deer. We shared in some good memories! Curt was a hard worker, and would help anyone at a moment’s notice. He will be missed.”

The crash occurred outside of Vienna, Il. after having left Hannibal, Mo. The group was on their way to Nashville for a New Year’s celebration.

Funeral arrangements for the 4 victims are pending.
