Second Pedestrian in Three Days Injured
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Police Department along with the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car versus pedestrian accident in the 600 block of 11th Avenue West on Thursday night at approximately 10:30 pm.
Oskaloosa Police Department’s Lt. Gary McClun spoke with Oskaloosa News, reporting that alcohol didn’t play a factor in the accident.
Neither the driver nor the pedestrian have been identified.
McClun said the vehicle was traveling westbound in the 600 block of 11th Avenue West, and struck the pedestrian who was walking westbound. “Pedestrian was wearing all black. Black pants, black coat and stated that he was walking down the middle of the road listening to music and didn’t hear the car coming up behind him,” said McClun.
The driver of the car stated, “he didn’t see him until it was too late.” added McClun.
The pedestrian suffered a broken leg and a laceration to his head, and was transported to a Des Moines area hospital for further treatment.
McClun said that at this time it appears no charges will be filed because of the accident.
Also assisting at the scene was Mahaska Health Partnership, Iowa State Patrol with assistance from Mahaska County 911 Dispatch.
