Oskaloosa Police And Fire Helping Kids Have A Merry Christmas

After serving approximately 300 people, members of the Oskaloosa Police Department enjoy some conversation after dinner. Their work helped to bring in several boxes of toys for kids in need.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Students and community members helped to make some children’s Christmas a little more special this year, when they donated a toy.

The donors were then served a free meal from Sodexo at William Penn, and a line had formed at the door by 4:30pm.

Oskaloosa Police Lieutenant Gary McClun spoke about the origins of the drive, when William Penn University invited the police department to serve dinner to the students before finals.

‘It’s a good opportunity to meet some of the students,” added McClun, of the chance to interact with students while not on duty.

This was the first year where toys were collected at the meal, and the police department invited the fire department to also join them this year.

Over 300 students came through the line.

McClun said the toys are then taken back to the police department, where they will be distributed with Toys for Tots.
