Indians Run Record to 4-0 with 76-52 win

by Doug DeKock

Centerville, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Boys’ basketball team travelled to Centerville Tuesday night with a chance to start 4-0 for the first time in 8 years. The Indians did just that in beating Centerville 76-52. In the past, Oskaloosa would play down to its competition but they seem to be leaving that behind with two blowout wins already this year. Another strength, depth, was evident again as seven Indians scored at least 6 points. It seems to be someone different leading the charge each night and this night it was Jarad Kruse and Rian Yates. Kruse pumped in 22 points while Yates came off the bench to hit three 3 pointers for 9 points.

Oskaloosa started slow leading 17-14 after the 1st quarter but pressed on the gas in the 2nd quarter outscoring Centerville 18-9 to take a 35-23 halftime lead. The Indians continued to roll in the 3rd quarter stretching the lead to 57-33 and putting the game out of reach. Oskaloosa had its best assist game in years also, collecting 18 assists in the game.

Kruse led three Indians in double figures with 22 points while Jack Moore and Cole Henry scored 12 and 11 each. Yates was next in line with 9 points and freshman Xavier Foster had his best scoring game with 8 points. Tanner DeKock and Spencer Tucker continued their steady season with 6 points each. Foster also led the Indians in rebounds with 8 while DeKock was right behind with 7 boards. Kruse and Henry each pulled down 5 rebounds.

Oskaloosa travels to Grinnell Friday night to face a very good Tigers basketball team. Grinnell played Pella tough last week before losing 96-94 and have been ranked as high as 4th in some polls. The Tigers have as good a 1-2 punch as you will see in Iowa with Sam Allen and 6’9 Cade McKnight. The Indians hope to start conference play 2-0 with both wins on the road. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45pm in Grinnell in what could be one heck of a game!
