August 4, 1959 – November 30, 2016
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 57

Michael Anthony Appleget, 57, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday, November 30, 2016. He was born Tuesday, August 4, 1959, in Sigourney, the son of Clarence and Rosemary Weber Appleget.

Mike graduated from Sigourney High School with the Class of 1977. He attended Waldorf University on a football scholarship.

While in Sigourney, Mike and his brother Terry ran a farming operation together. After moving to Oskaloosa he began work with Carter’s, building the ATPIC Mall in Oskaloosa. He also helped the Dale Van Veldhuizen farm. Mike then began his career with Farm Service where he was first a floater operator. He was promoted to Crop Salesman and then earned the position of Department Manager of Petroleum and LP. Mike worked with FS for more than 10 years. After a brief move to Illinois, Mike returned to Iowa and was appointed Southern Iowa sales representative for Davis Equipment, Johnston, Iowa. He held this position from 1996-1999. In June of 1999, Mike began his own company, Precision Yield Co. in Oskaloosa, where he remained. On

November 20, 1998, Mike was united in marriage to Cheryl Copeland at Sigourney.
He loved his family so very much. He took great joy in his three children, Sarah, Drew, Jenna and granddaughter, Savannah. He and his wife were rarely seen apart. They enjoyed much of their time together at his favorite place, “the river”. This is where they camped, fished and boated. Mike was quite the Pit Master and loved all meats that he could smoke and enjoy. He especially loved craft beer and spent many hours brewing his own to enjoy with friends and family.

He helped his children raise cows early on as 4-H projects but continued on with a few as he truly enjoyed having them on the property. His daughter, Jenna, lovingly referred to him as “Dr. Doolittle” when he was with them.

Mike was truly a lover of life. He never met a stranger and if you were his friend you were a friend for life. He lit up a room with his smile, a big hug and always that laugh that told others he was present.

He shared much of his life lovingly and proudly through social media. He was the biggest cheerleader for his children’s activities and accomplishments. Sarah was the first of his children that he enjoyed sharing activities with, from tee ball to graduation and she is still making him proud. Whether it be watching Drew on the Oskaloosa Shooting Team or chasing him across a crossing country coarse to catch another glimpse. Jenna’s love of dance and her performances this fall brought him such joy in watching her do what she loves. And granddaughter, Savannah squealing “Poppy” each time he entered a room brought such a smile to his face. This love was immeasurable.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Appleget of Oskloosa; two daughters, Sarah and Jenna; a son, Andrew “Drew”; and his granddaughter, Savannah – all of Oskaloosa; his mother, Rosemary Appleget of Sigourney; two sisters: Susan (& Gerald) Hurst of Des Moines, and Ann (& Rod) Russell of Lenexa, Kansas; two brothers: Mark (& Eileen) Appleget of Danville, California, and Dan (& Beckie) Appleget of Sigourney; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Clarence; and a brother Terry.
