Indian Girls Show Improvement in 63-44 Loss to Pella Christian

by Doug DeKock

The Oskaloosa girls’ basketball team traveled to Pella Friday night to face the #9 ranked P.C. Eagles. The Indians played ranked Fairfield Tuesday night and it looked as if that experience helped Oskaloosa against P.C. The Indians 1-2 played some of their best basketball in quite some time before falling 63-44 to 4-0 P.C.

The Indians 1st quarter was completely opposite of Tuesday night as the shots were falling and Oskaloosa led throughout the quarter and led 17-14 at the end of the 1st quarter. Lindsey Holenberg and Alexis Westercamp helped Oskaloosa to the 1st quarter lead.

Oskaloosa started the second quarter playing well and continued to lead until the 4 minutes mark of the 2nd quarter. P.C.’s full court press then started causing turnovers and the Eagles were able to catch and overtake the Indians going to half with a 30-25 lead.

The 3rd and 4th quarter were more of the same as the press took a toll on Oskaloosa and Pella Christian pulled away for the win, 63-44. Alexis Westercamp led the Indians in scoring 15 points. Marleigh Denberger had her best scoring game of the year with 8 points while Lindsey Holenberg was right behind her with 7 points. Shalandra Shilling, Katlyn Smith, and Sarah Strovers each had 3 points for the Indians. Oskaloosa hopes to continue their improvement when they face Knoxville on Saturday in Oskaloosa.
