The Oskaloosa boys basketball team opened up their much anticipated 2016-17 season with a resounding 84-41 win over Fairfield Tuesday night in Oskaloosa. Expectations are as high as ever for the Indians who returned most of their roster from last year and welcome highly touted 6’9” freshman Xavier Foster to the varsity roster. Oskaloosa and Fairfield played a close game to open last year’s season, but that would not be the case this year. Oskaloosa stormed out of the gates to lead 22-7 after one quarter. Senior Jack Moore came out on fire scoring 9 points in the quarter.

Sophomore Cole Henry picked up in the second quarter where Moore left off in the 1st quarter leading the Indians to a 41-21 half-time lead. Oskaloosa was able to rotate 9 players throughout the game which shows the team has quality depth this year.

Oskaloosa was led in scoring and rebounding by sophomore Cole Henry. Henry poured in 23 points and also pulled down 13 rebounds to record his first, of what could be numerous varsity double doubles. Moore battled foul trouble throughout the game, but still managed to score 18 points. Spencer Tucker tallied 13 points with 3-three point baskets. Tanner DeKock was next in line with 11 points, while Xavier Foster scored 6 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Jared Kruse and Rian Yates each chipped in 4 points with Kruse also grabbing 5 rebounds. Andy Sterner and Tucker

Nunnikhoven closed out the scoring for Osky with 3 and 2 points each.
Oskaloosa will take its 1-0 record to #3 ranked Pella Christian on Friday night in Pella. The Indians upset PC last year and will have their hands full with a talented P.C. squad. Game time is scheduled for 7:45pm.
