Oskaloosa, Iowa – At Central Reformed Church, 60 volunteers filtered into the church on Wednesday to help prep for a massive community feast that takes place on Thursday.

Andy Baker, from Central Reformed Church, talked about the 15th Annual Oskaloosa Community Thanksgiving meal, that started at noon on Thursday.

The meal is open to any community member, regardless of what church they may or may not attend, or their financial situation.

“We see it as such a privilege to host this each year as a way to bless the community. It meets needs stretching from those seeking a place to be on Thanksgiving to those who could not otherwise afford a big meal to the homeless. Our volunteers go to amazing lengths to prepare the best possible meal and ensure a great experience for all,” said Baker.

At the Mahaska County Law Center, community members came together to make sure those who serve and protect the community have an opportunity to have a nice meal.

Mahaska County Emergency Manager Jamey Robinson said, “For the third year in a row, Oskaloosa News, Wyndell Campbell State Farm and Grate Expectations in Oskaloosa, have provided a full thanksgiving meal for those that give up their family time to serve our county. A huge thank you to these great people.”

Wyndell Campbell added, “With all the trouble our first responders are facing in the world today, we wanted to take time and tell them ‘Thank you’ for answering the call to keep us all safe at home with our families while they spend the holiday away from theirs. We owe these individuals a lot, not just after tragedy but day in and day out for the job they do.”
