Maxine Natalia Millikin, age 103 of Hedrick, died October 11, 2016 at the Keokuk County Hospital. Maxine was born September 27, 1913 in Keokuk County, the daughter of Ralph W. and Lula Hawk Higgins.

Maxine attended Country School Center #3 and graduated from Hedrick High School in 1931. Maxine attended Iowa State College for two years and graduated from William Penn University in 1973.

Maxine taught at various country schools and retired from Hedrick Community School in 1982. Maxine was united in marriage to Dwight W. Millikin on June 16, 1938 in Trenton, MO. Her husband passed away July of 1980.

Maxine was a member of the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Hedrick American Legion Auxiliary. Maxine was an eighty-four-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She had served as Worthy Matron and held several offices through the years. After retiring from teaching she enjoyed quilting (having made several quilts), bird watching, cooking and baking bread.

Her memory is honored by three sons: Harlan D. (& Joyce) Millikin of Hedrick, Donald R. Millikin of Hedrick, and Arthur W. (& Margie) Millikin of Hedrick; seven grandchildren: Greg (& Marianne) Millikin, Scott (& Lisa) Millikin, Brent (& Jennifer) Millikin, Joel (& Jenell) Millikin, Amber (& Steve) Rude, Bryce (& Allison) Millikin and Cade Millikin; Seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; Two sisters, Martha Perkins of Ottumwa and Marcia Kadel of Rapid City, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Blake Millikin.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 at 1 P.M. in the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church in Hedrick, Iowa with Pastor Tim Schoeph officiating.
Burial will be in Abel Cemetery north of Hedrick.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 12-7 at the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church with the family present from 5-7pm.
Memorials may be made to the Keokuk County Hospice Auxiliary, Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church or the Hedrick American Legion Auxiliary.
