Jerry Gay, 72, of Oskaloosa passed away Thursday afternoon, October 13, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Jerry Dean Gay, son of Clifford Eveland and Margaret (Dykstra) Gay, was born December 1, 1943 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Following his education, he joined the Army Reserves and he farmed with his father on the family farm in Jefferson Township.

He married Mary Pefferman, December 28, 1963, in Oskaloosa. They made their home on a farmstead near his family’s farm and to this union two daughters were born. They later divorced.

Jerry married Carol Anne Sampson, December 17, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the early 80s, Jerry and Carol moved to Cape Fair in SW Missouri and Jerry was soon employed by Frito Lay as a route salesman. He remained with Frito Lay until 1993, at which time they moved back to Iowa, settling on an acreage on River Road, in Scott Township. Jerry always enjoyed wood working and was soon employed with Warwick Wood Products, producing custom wood cabinetry and furniture. He worked with Warwick’s until his retirement in 1996.

Jerry was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa and a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #644. He was an avid Western movie fan his whole life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his wood shop and loved living in the country surrounded by nature. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR.

His family includes his wife of almost 38 years, Carol; his daughters: Kristy (& Andy) Holmberg of Oskaloosa and Cynde Stanzel of Denver, CO; his step-children: Christy (& Darren) Luers of Keota, IA, Wade (& Kim) Robbins of Rose Hill, IA and Sam (& Maisi) Maas of Oskaloosa; nine grandchildren: Jamie, Lindsey and Cale Holmberg, Adam (& Hannah) Stanzel, CJ and Colton Luers, Drew and Brock Robbins, and Jared Maas; one great-granddaughter, Layla Stanzel; a brother, Roger (& Cyndy) Gay of Oskaloosa; and his fur-babies: Max and Maggie.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

As was his wish, Jerry’s body has been cremated.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Coal Creek Cemetery.
Family and friends should gather at the cemetery. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Memorial contributions can be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
