Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s soccer team was playing without a couple key players Saturday and was unfortunately not able to matchup up well against #16 Benedictine in a 4-0 loss in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

The Statesmen (4-9-1, 2-6-1 Heart) were outshot 21-5 and permitted a goal in the fifth minute. The hosts settled in, however, and gave BC (11-3, 6-2 Heart) a good fight for nearly the rest of the first half.

The Ravens finally gave themselves some separation, though, with a pair of back-breaking goals right before halftime. Benedictine then added one more score in the second half.

Camila Parra (Jr., Brisbane, Australia, Exercise Science) tallied two shots, while Adriana Borjon (Sr., Willits, Calif., Exercise Science) stopped five BC attempts.

“We were simply outplayed by a better team and we did not do enough to make it easier on ourselves,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “It is always disheartening to lose by four goals and we are feeling a bit sorry for ourselves.”

“We have three games left on the season and I am looking for a positive reaction from the players as we end this season,” McGowan said.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Springfield, Mo. next Saturday to face Evangel in Heart play at 11 a.m.
