Canton, Mo.–The William Penn women’s soccer team could not overcome being down a player as it fell 1-0 to Culver-Stockton in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Wednesday.

WPU (4-8-1, 2-5-1 Heart) was outshot just 10-9 in the defensive battle and remained in a scoreless tie early in the second half.

Unfortunately, the visitors lost one of their players to a red card in the 56th minute, and just 76 seconds later, the Wildcats (7-5-2, 4-4 Heart) tallied the lone score of the night.

AnnaMarie Urps (So., Wilton, Calif., Physical Education) topped William Penn with four shots and Bre Johnson (Jr., Arvada, Colo., Information Technology) was next with three tries.

Adriana Borjon (Sr., Willits, Calif., Exercise Science) recorded a trio of saves in the loss.

“We came out on the short end of another competitive performance and feel disappointed as we had the better of the chances tonight,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “Culver-Stockton is a tough team and we shot ourselves in the foot a little and made it a bit easier for them to get the result. It is an unfortunate situation for the team because we feel we could easily be 8-4-1 given our performances, but find ourselves at 4-8-1 given the results.”

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Saturday to face #9 Benedictine in Heart play at 5:30 p.m.
