Ernest Frank “Ernie” Davis, age 96, of rural Eddyville, Iowa passed away Monday morning, October 3, 2016, at the Serenity House of Oskaloosa. Ernie was born on August 2, 1920, in Eddyville, Iowa, the son of Jay and Martha (Newenhouse) Davis.

Ernie was raised in rural Eddyville and graduated from Eddyville High School, Class of 1939.

Ernie farmed all his life and lived on the farm until 2015 when he lived for a short time at a care center. He also worked at John Deere and also John Morrell.

Ernie enjoyed the outdoors, especially coon hunting and fishing. He liked watching baseball on television and he was a former Little League Baseball Coach. One of Ernie’s greatest gifts, which he shared for many years, was that he was a self taught harmonica player.

Ernie is survived by his children: Patricia Kent, Gene Davis, Peggy (& John) Johnston, Paul (& Marty) Davis, Jim (& Sharon) Davis, Roger (& Jennifer) Davis, Andy Davis (& fiancé Sandi Breckenridge); many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Ernie is also survived by his sister-in-law Esther Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Wanda; his son Frank Davis; one granddaughter Carrie Davis; one sister Catherine DeLong; and five brothers: Ben, Sam, Neil, Jack, and Harry Davis.

Visitation for Ernie will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Ernie’s family will be greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Eddyville Methodist Church.
Burial will follow services at Highland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Ernie’s memory to the Serenity House of Oskaloosa.
