Leighton, Iowa – Walking through the vineyard on a fall morning sounds like a relaxing and peaceful way to spend a Saturday morning. When you add in the fact that you’re helping to raise money to fight cancer, the walk becomes just a little more special.

On Saturday, Interpower Corporation held their Vines of Life fundraising event at Tassel Ridge Winery near Leighton.

The walk is a part of the fundraising efforts at Interpower. Our employees do the walk to help support the American Cancer Society and Mahaska County Relay for Life.

Virginia Pierson, a member of the Vines of Life committee, said that the walk was started because, “many of us are cancer survivors. We’re trying to help others so that some day, people won’t have to hear the words, you have cancer.”

Pierson said that the effort also helps those who are fighting cancer, “because it is a long journey.”

The team from Interpower also hosts a garage sale, a bowling event, and a skating day, in effort to raise funds.

After the walk in the vineyard, Tassel Ridge served their wood fired pizzas, making donations from the sale of each pizza toward the cause.

Pierson thanked Tassel Ridge for allowing the walk to take place at the vineyard, “so we can help others.”
