Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors completed their meeting on Monday morning in under 20 minutes.

On their agenda was a conservation report from Conservation Director Dave Sedevic. Sedevic said that he and three of the County Conservation board members spent three days recently at the Iowa Association of County Conservation Boards Conference. Sedevic and the board members toured some of the conservation areas near the Fort Dodge area in conjunction with the conference.

Sedevic also explained that the Conservation Department did receive partial grant awards for a land acquisition project, but those grants were turned down by Sedevic as they were only partially funded, and wouldn’t have been enough to complete the deal. “Because if you take a partial payment, then that’s all you can apply for” explained Sedevic.

Approved was a Conservation Wetland Mitigation Easement in which the County Conservation will play as a 3rd party interest between another government agency and a landowner.

The board also heard from Deann DeGroot, Director of MCARD. DeGroot highlighted the effort the organization is undertaking in a labor study for the area, as well as preparing to host a job fair once again at Penn Central Mall.

Approved was the signature for the Case Management Cost Report for fiscal year 2016.

Approved was the liquor license for Peppers Inc, (The Pepper Tree) and a payroll change for Secondary Roads.

Also approved was a Secondary Road project BROS-CO62(91)—8J-62 (Bridge replacement on Elba Avenue near Leighton) that will see bid letting taking place in December.

Mahaska County supervisor Mike Vander Molen updated the other supervisors about the ongoing efforts to determine if a new communications tower for emergency personnel is needed. “It’s been a pretty extensive study so far”, said Vander Molen.

No further action was taken by the board.
