A benefit on the Oskaloosa Square Saturday evening will benefit the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Country Canines came to town to help raise some money for the new Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.

The groups from Corgis for a Cause, Stephen memorial Animal Shelter, Oskaloosa Main Street and NoCoast Beer planned out the evening event.

Lindsey Sime, Director at Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter, said that the fundraising for the new shelter got it’s start with the event. Additional fundraising events will be taking place to help secure additional funds for the project.

If all goes to plan, Sime says that ground on the new project could officially be broken in the early spring of 2017.

The USDA would be providing the low interest loan to the shelter, which would be paid off by already pledged funds, and extra efforts like that on Saturday.

Oskaloosa Hy-Vee manager Clete Hjorth, was on hand with a brand new Ford truck that the store is giving away.

The back of the truck was filled with several hundred pounds of dog food and cat litter to help Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.

One lucky person in Oskaloosa will win the truck by using their rewards card at the store.

David Starr, a nationally known recording artist, was on hand sharing his musical talents.
