Oskaloosa Teen Injured In Accident

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Police Department responded to an accident in the 1500 block of N 3rd Street on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after 2pm.

Upon arriving on scene, they discovered an injured 14 year-old male driver of a moped.

According to the accident narrative, the officer arrived to find vehicle #1 (moped) had exited the southern most Oskaloosa Middle School driveway and drove south on N. 3rd Street. South of O Avenue E.

Vehicle #2, a 4-door 2004 Chrysler, driven by a 14-year-old female, pulled out from a parked position on the west side of the roadway into the path of vehicle #1.

Vehicle #1 struck the rear driver’s side door of vehicle #2.

The driver of vehicle #2 stated that she had originally parked on the west side of the roadway, noticed that it was a no parking zone, so, she decided to move to the east side of the roadway. The driver of vehicle #2 stated that she checked her mirror prior to pulling into the roadway and saw vehicle #1 as it was in the middle school driveway.

The driver of vehicle #2 believed that the roadway was clear and pulled into the roadway.

The rider of vehicle #1 sustained numerous injuries to include a laceration to his head, a broken right leg and other lacerations. The rider of vehicle #1 was transported by ambulance to Mahaska Health Partnership.

Vehicle #2 was cited for violation of code 10.08.010(54), starting parked vehicle.

Oskaloosa News has withheld the names of those involved because they are minors.
