Oskaloosa, Iowa – It’s not every day you get to celebrate a completely different kind of business. This week, Oskaloosa got to enjoy the launching of NoCoast Beer Co.

The brewery was christened earlier in the week, with the smashing of a bottle of beer, much like the christening of a ship.

Friday evening had a sampling event on the square in Oskaloosa, in which people got their first taste of the creative works of Chuck Crabtee and his brew staff.

Melanie Mackey, events coordinator for NoCoast said, “The first tasting was great. It was our first public outing and we really enjoyed meeting people on the square. We unveiled our colorful cans and they each have their own unique character. We served the Belgian wheat, amber ale, and brown ale, with an off-brand barrel aged stout and pale ale as an extra bonus.”

NoCoast hasn’t been all smooth sailing since their unveiling. Peace Tree Brewing in Knoxville has taken exception to the new brewery’s choice in name. PeaceTree names one of their brews No Coast.

Megan McKay, President of Peace Tree Brewing called out the upstart brewing company for what they believe to be name theft.

The dispute between the brewers hasn’t settled yet, and several in the craft beer industry have spoken out in favor of Peace Tree.

For now, NoCoast the brewery in Oskaloosa is focusing on the future, and trying to gain traction in the craft beer market.
