Oskaloosa, Iowa – You only have to say one word for most Mahaska County residents to know who you’re talking about. The name “Grizz” comes up, and everyone knows exactly who he is.

The days are clicking by until “Grizz” or Richard Adams officially hangs up his gun-belt for the final time.

Grizz got his start in law enforcement while he was a mechanic for the City of Oskaloosa, also serving as a posse member for 5 years. Rich was asked by Sheriff Joe Beal to test for an open deputy position. Adams started with Mahaska County on September 1, 1991.

Along the way, Adams has shared his ‘ism’s’, and was known to have a large following on the scanner.

If you would like to visit Rich at his retirement party, it will be open for family, friends and fan’s of Richard “Grizz” Adams. He will be celebrating 25 years of service to Mahaska County as a deputy, 30 years as a reserve deputy.

Join him in celebration on September 5th, from 2 to 6 pm at his place, 2585 Osburn Avenue. It is the same location as Spring Creek Arms.

Richard’s last night on the road as a Mahaska County Deputy will be September 2nd.
