Larry D. Isley Sr., 74, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016, at his home near Tracy. Larry was born, April 20, 1942, to Chester D. and Alice R. (Vernon) Isley in Knoxville, Iowa.

Larry graduated from Lovilia High school and then went into the U.S. Navy, becoming a hospital corpsman. He met Ellen “Chris” Harris at Long Beach, CA where they married July 6, 1962. He left the Navy in 1964 and the family returned to Iowa.

They moved to Missouri and then Indiana. Larry received his BS Ed at NE Missouri State and later his nursing degree in Michigan. They lived in South Bend, IN for nine years with their two children and then moved back to Iowa in 1977. They have lived in Tracy for 38 years. He last worked at Iowa Lutheran Hospital for 27 years. During that time, he obtained his BSN from Mary Crest College in Davenport.

Larry and Chris traveled many places while still working and after retirement.

His main hobby was gardening. He completed the Master Gardner course.

Larry’s family includes his wife, Chris of Tracy; children: Larry (& Michelle Hames) Isley Jr. of Lincoln, NE and Dawn Isley of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren: Ashley (& Blake) Isley Shafer of Chesapeake, VA, and Tasha Isley of West Des Moines; and great-grandsons: Edwin and Parker Shafer. He is also survived by his sisters: Roberta Selsor of Altoona, Grace (& Dennis) Briley of Des Moines, Marylee Fitch of Pleasant Hill, and Nancy Kinsey of Lovilia; a sister-in-law, Linda Isley of Des Moines; and brothers: Donald Isley of Perry, and Robert (& Amy) Higdon of Bremerton, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Lester Isley.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, August 20, at the Isley home at 2579 Ashland Avenue, Tracy. All family, friends and neighbors are welcome to come and celebrate Larry’s life.
As was his wish, Larry’s body has been cremated. His ashes will be buried privately at Bellefountaine Cemetery near Tracy.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Bellefountaine Cemetery Memorial Committee (708 Parker St., Tracy 50256) or Hospice of Central Iowa.
