LaVerne Van Dusseldorp, 92, of Oskaloosa, passed away, Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa.
LaVerne Ruth Van Dusseldorp, daughter of Dick Almer and Clara (DeGoey) Rietveld, was born, July 24, 1924, at the home of her parents north of Pella, Iowa.
LaVerne was a 1942 graduate of Pella High School.
LaVerne married the love of her life, Gilbert Van Dusseldorp, November 27, 1945. They began their life together on a farm near Pella and then lived on a farm near Monroe for a time. They later moved to a farm 12 miles west of Oskaloosa, where they farmed for several years. In 1979, they purchased a farm near Rose Hill. LaVerne loved her role as homemaker and mother, but she was much more than that, she was a true helpmate to her husband with the farm operation and its numerous chores.
In August of 2000, they moved to Geneva Drive in Oskaloosa. After Gilbert passed away in 2006, LaVerne stayed in her home until June 2010, when she moved to Maple Ridge Assisted Living. In August 2015, she moved to Oskaloosa Care Center.
LaVerne was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton for many years; she later transferred her membership to the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. She was also a member of her rural neighborhood Club.
Laverne enjoyed playing the piano, sewing and embroidery.
Left to cherish LaVerne’s memory are her two daughters: Connie (& Rick Stevens) Burke of Oskaloosa and Sandra Vos of Surprise, AZ. She was blessed with four granddaughters: Kelli Vos of Surprise, AZ; Stacey (& John) Bone of Pella, IA; Michelle Vos of Avondale, AZ and Heather (& John) Stevens VanDenBerg of Oskaloosa; five great-grandchildren: Zachary (& Rebecca Rendon) Robbins, Schuyler Seper, Payton Bone, Austin Bone, and Karic Stout; three step-great-grandchildren: Carter, Jarett and Jori VanDenBerg; two great-great-grandchildren: Ezekel “Zeke” and Arizona “Zona” Robbins. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Gerri Rietveld of Hutchinson, KS.
In addition to her parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert on March 17, 2006; a sister, Beatrice Aalbers; and a brother, Robert Rietveld.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, August 15, 2016, at the First Christian Church with Rev. Tim Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Sunday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral chapel; the family will be present from 2-4 p.m., Sunday afternoon to greet visitors.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.
