Lyle Lavern Showman, 83, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, August 12, 2016, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born Monday, May 15, 1933, South of What Cheer in Keokuk County, the son of Robert and Edith Randall Showman.

Lyle graduated from What Cheer High School with the Class of 1951.

Following school, Lyle worked at John Morrell in Ottumwa for 12 years. On October 5, 1952, Lyle was united in marriage to Doris Mae Shipman at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. Together they bought a farm near Hedrick in 1954. They raised chickens and farmed there until 1962. In 1962, they sold the farm near Hedrick and purchased a farm Southwest of Oskaloosa where they farmed until his retirement in 2010.

Lyle loved fishing and hunting with Doris. He took great pride in his farm and his family.

He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Doris Showman of Oskaloosa; his three daughters: Connie (& Merle) Miller of Oskaloosa, Phyllis (& Jay) Heitsman of Ottumwa, and Linda (& Irvin) Hartley of Ottumwa; six grandchildren: Michael (& Jennifer) Miller, James (& Julie) Miller, Jodie (& Davis) Eidahl, Joshua (& Stephanie) Heitsman, Jesse Heitsman, and Clayton (& fiancée Shelby Goodvin) Sheedy; ten great grandchildren: Emily Miller, Riley Miller, Brooklyn Miller, Gabriela Miller, True Eidahl, Trin Eidahl, Trea Eidahl, Jace Heitsman, Jax Heitsman, and Saylor Heitsman; a step granddaughter, Tabatha (& Steve) Hartley; a step great grandchild, Nicholas Luna; two brothers: Gerald Showman of Cedar Rapids and Jack (& Chris) Showman of Ottumwa; two sisters-in-law: Margaret Wells and Nellie Winkleman; a brother-in-law, Edgar Cameron; and several nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father in law, Roy & Opal Shipman; a great granddaughter, Lydia Grace Miller; a half-sister, Helen (& Dave) Farnum; three half-brothers: Leroy (& Helen) Shipman, Jack (& Vivian) Shipman and Harley (and his two wives Laura and Bea) Shipman; three brothers-in-law: Gene Winkleman, Gene Briggs and Harold Wells; and two sisters-in-law: Ann Cameron and Darlene Briggs.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at 1:30 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Dave Brown officiating.
Burial will be in the Garrett Cemetery near Delta.
Visitation will begin Monday, August 15, 2016, after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Monday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Omega Church in Oskaloosa.
