Raymond Mickles, a Beacon resident and sophomore at William Penn University, has been selected to receive an Iowa Challenge Scholarship for the 2016 – 2017 academic year through the Iowa College Foundation (ICF).

The Vera Mayer Trust Scholarship is made possible through a grant from the Let’s Keep Iowa Students in Iowa Challenge Program, a corporate-sponsored project administered by the Iowa College Foundation, which represents 23 independent colleges and universities throughout the state. The Iowa College Foundation (ICF) was founded in 1952, with able assistance from the Iowa business community, to annually solicit unified support for private higher education in the state. The two sponsors – KENT Corporation and The Bechtel Trusts – have matched new and increased gifts to the Foundation to provide scholarship funds for Iowa students of high academic standing who also demonstrate financial need.

This program reflects the corporate community’s awareness of the value of an education at an independent college and the need to provide financial assistance to encourage students to study in Iowa and remain here following graduation.
