Celebrate Oskaloosa is one more reason Oskaloosa downtown is the place to be this summer.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Southern Iowa Fair was wrapping up and Oskaloosa downtown came alive again with a multitude of activities and events.

There was a splash pad built by the Oskaloosa Fire Department, a movie in the park and a farm to table dinner that had over 50 people enjoying an evening meal together on the square.

Saturday started off with the Oskaloosa Marching Band reunion and yoga in the park, while the farmers’ market took place nearby.

Nearly 30 people hopped on their bicycles and took part in the community bike ride, while others enjoyed the Big Bear Puppeteer program at the Oskaloosa Public Library.

At the Book Vault, beginning at 10 am, 25 people learned about smoothie making, the result of which they could enjoy while walking the businesses downtown during the Ridiculous Day sale taking place.

Ann Smith, who helped coordinate the two days celebrating Oskaloosa, said, “It went absolutely fabulous.”

Smith said Sunday evening was “absolutely wonderful” when describing the weather for the people enjoying the splash pad and all the activities provided by Mahaska Drug. “They’ve got a good thing going on with all of those games and toys.”

“The farm to table dinner was a complete success,” said Smith. “We ended up selling 72 tickets and the weather was perfect. The food was perfect.”

Smith expressed her gratitude to all the donors and sponsors of the food. “So generous,” Smith said. “It was just great to see people down this long line of tables eating and chatting.”
