Oskaloosa, Iowa – The National Weather Service warned emergency personnel and the public on Tuesday that the slow moving weather system would cause flash flooding.

The storm that hit Oskaloosa on Tuesday afternoon dumped nearly 3 inches of rain, with a reported near 4 inches of rain by homeowners on the south side of Oskaloosa.

The deluge flooded streets, small streams turned into fast moving rivers, and emergency responders were answering the call for fires on utility poles.

Mahaska County Emergency Manager Jamey Robinson once again asked people to “Turn Around. Don’t Drown”.

Robinson also said to be aware that with the recent storms, trees may be in a fragile state, and may come down without warning. If you are concerned about a tree on your property, Robinson suggests getting a professional tree service to assess the situation. “The trees have taken quite the beating, so be cautious” says Robinson.

The National Weather Services said they hope to have some official totals for the Oskaloosa area later Tuesday evening. We will update this story when those become available.
