OSKALOOSA, IA — Jason Tipsword, the only certified stage combat teacher in the state of Iowa, joins the George Daily Youth Theatre this week as a guest teacher.

Tipsword works with the “Performer’s Journey” camp, which is geared toward actors who want to learn more of the disciplined art of theatre. On the first day, campers chose to do an abridged version of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” to showcase at the end of the week. While Tipsword is not teaching stage combat, he does bring his expertise with movement and Shakespeare.

“We’re so excited to be able to work with Jason again,” says Andy McGuire, Education Director at the George Daily Auditorium. “He’s a phenomenal teacher whether he’s blocking a scene or giving notes on line delivery or teaching stage combat.”

Tipsword spent three years at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, National Stage Combat Workshop. He received his teaching certificate from the North Carolina School of the Arts, and has taught at the University of Iowa, Central College, and Kirkwood Community College.

There are still two camps left before the end of the summer! The Daily Film Project begins Monday, July 18th and will see campers creating their own film every day for a film festival at the end of the week. The Two-Week Theatre Production is based on an original script that blends the worlds of Where’s Waldo and Amelia Bedelia together and will begin on Monday, July 25.

Camp runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with programming available for kindergarten through high school. Free, healthy lunches will be provided for all campers through the Oskaloosa Summer Lunch Program. Brochures and registrations are available at the George Daily Auditorium or online at www.georgedaily.org. For questions, contact Andy McGuire at (641) 672-3795 or youth@georgedaily.org.
