Darlene Reed, 92 of Des Moines and formerly of New Sharon passed away peacefully Saturday evening, April 23, 2016 at the Valley View Village in Des Moines. Rosella Darlene Reed, the daughter of Howard and Viva Merrill, was born on November 6, 1923 in Buxton, Iowa near Albia.

Darlene graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1943. On June 2, 1946, She was united in marriage to Robert Reed in Greenville, South Carolina. To this union three children were born, Mike, Pat and Linda.

Darlene had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She also loved mushroom hunting, dancing and singing. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a Cub Scout Leader for many years and worked many summer nights at the concession stand at the ball field. Bob and Darlene made many fishing trips together to Leach Lake in Minnesota. Darlene was involved in PTA and Cub Scouts.

Her memory will be honored by her children: Mike (& Sheila) Reed of San Marcos, CA, Pat (& Darit) Reed of Fort Collins, Co and Linda (& Marty) Lamberti of Altoona; nine grandchildren: Brian, Brad, Allison, Samantha, Caitlin, D.J., Shannon, Jodi and Steve; 13 great grandchildren: Megan, Matthew, Christopher, Brandon, Justin, Bridger, Dawson, Jeremiah, Samuel, Amelia, Madelyn, William and Peyton; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Reed; six sisters: Mayme, Dorothy, Louise, Leora, Alberta and Viola; and her brother, Delbert.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valley View Village or Mercy Hospice.
