Dean D. Sartin, 88, of Oskaloosa died Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born Monday, October 24, 1927 in Webster County, Missouri, the son of Thomas and Vesta Townlin Sartin.

Following school, Dean went to work driving a milk truck from farm to farm and then delivering to the Carnation plant in Springfield, Missouri. Dean later joined the U.S. Army and served as an X-Ray technician at the 49th General Hospital in Tokyo, Japan following WWII. After his discharge, Dean went back to work driving a milk truck.

On September 22, 1950, Dean was united in marriage to Kathleen Cornelison at Mountain Home, Arkansas. Following their marriage, Dean and Kathy moved to Oskaloosa and Dean went to work at Maytag in Newton. He worked there for 39 years and retired in 1989.

Dean enjoyed hunting. He also loved to fish and spent many afternoons at the river. He enjoyed watching the weather and loved watching wildlife and feeding the squirrels and rabbits in his yard. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Lodge and currently a member of the Oskaloosa American Legion.

Dean is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Kathy Sartin of Oskaloosa; three daughters: Joyce (& Robert) McKim of Oskaloosa, Sherry Wymore of Harrisonville, Missouri and Deanna Freeman of Cleveland, Missouri; 6 grandchildren: Jill (& Ryan) Hill of West Des Moines, Rodger (& Sunny) McKim of Oskaloosa, Ben Wymore of Oskaloosa, Anna (& R.J.) Knox of Harrisonville, Missouri, Kelly (& Ryan) Miller of East Lynne, Missouri, and Tom (& Crystal) Freeman of Peculiar, Missouri; 8 great grandchildren: Nathan and Lucy McKim, Grant and Reese Hill, Houston and Zoey Miller, and Addison and Henry Knox; two sisters: Daisy Mohorich of Forest Grove, Oregon and Bettie Delgado of Riverside, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great granddaughter, Alissa McKim; and three brothers: Carl, Cecil and David Lee Sartin.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 25, 2016, at 1 P.M.in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Charlie McMillan officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 24, 2016, after 11 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the family present at the funeral chapel Sunday from 1 -3 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
