Edna Rigdon, 85, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Bessemer, Alabama, passed away Friday evening, March 25, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House. Edna Earle Rigdon, daughter of Gordon C. and Elizabeth Delaney (Duckworth) Lawley, was born, August 3, 1930, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Edna was raised in Bessemer and following her education, she worked at the Ziegler Meat Packing Company. She married Alvin “Jack” Rigdon, September 8, 1961, in Columbus, Georgia. They made their home in Bessemer, where Edna was a homemaker. Jack passed away November 7, 2003. In 2013, Edna moved to Oskaloosa to live with her daughter. Homestead Assisted Living became her home in the fall of 2014.
Edna’s family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Brad Marolf of Oskaloosa; and her three grandsons: Blake, Drew and Brandt Marolf, all of Oskaloosa.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Edna was preceded in death by two sisters: Brenda Pierce and Eunice Mason.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Brown Service Funeral Home in Bessemer, Alabama.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Bessemer. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel is handling the local arrangements.
