March 30 Designated Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Oskaloosa Mayor signed a proclamation this past week that will designated March 30th as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.
The American Legion in Oskaloosa will be hosting a dinner in Honor of Vietnam Veteran’s Day beginning at 5:00pm on Wednesday, March 30th. “You do not need to be a member of the legion. We are pleased to invite Vietnam veterans to post #34 (302 High Ave East, Oskaloosa) for pulled pork sandwiches and many hot/cold appetizers.The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of American Legion and Legion riders are sponsoring this event.”
The Proclamation reads as follows:
Whereas, March 30th is designated as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.
Whereas, this day, represents the 43rd anniversary of the end of the American involvement in the Vietnam conflict; and
Whereas, more than 58,000 individuals made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam and more than 300,000 more were wounded in combat; and
Whereas, thousands of brave Americans served our country in this conflict with courage, honor, and valor; and did not receive appreciation upon returning home from war,
Whereas, freedom is a cherished privilege to be treasured by all citizens of the City of Oskaloosa;
Whereas, the citizens of Oskaloosa thank our Vietnam Veterans for standing strong when they were needed and answering the challenge when they were called.
Now, Therefore, I David Krutzfeldt, Mayor of the City of Oskaloosa, Iowa, on this said day of March 24, 2016, do hereby proclaim March 30, 2016 as Welcome Home Vietnam War Veterans Day.
