Roy E. McFarland, 68, of Barnes City and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Friday, March 4 2016, at his home in Barnes City. He was born Tuesday, February 10, 1948, in Novinger, Missouri, the son of Charles Cecil and Wilma Skinner McFarland.

Roy worked for a time at Oskaloosa Food Products, a car dealership in Corpus Christi, Texas and lastly at a cement company in Pella until disability forced his retirement.

On May 7, 1977, Roy was united in marriage to Jeannie L. McFarland. Jeannie died on October 7, 2014. Roy married Peggy Sue Norris September 2, 2015.

Roy enjoyed playing on the computer and watching Westerns and The Walking Dead.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Sue; one daughter, Amanda (& Steve) Shepherd of Fremont; a son, Robert (& Angel) McFarland of Brooklyn, Iowa; a stepson, Marc Alfred of Wright, Iowa; and two stepdaughters: Angela Sherwood of Des Moines and Angela Janette of Milan, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and three brothers: Buster (& Sandy) McFarland of Davenport, Butch (& LaVonne) McFarland of Chariton and Jerry McFarland of Kirksville, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jeannie; a son, Kevin; three brothers: Gene, David and Chuck McFarland; and two sisters: Daisy Weaver and Irene Long.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 7, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family present will be held on Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Roy McFarland Memorial Fund.
