PELLA— After tremendous performances at the Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend, Central College track and field athletes Abi Davis (senior, West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) and Cole Decker (senior, Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) were named Iowa Conference female and male athletes of the week, respectively.

Also honored by the Iowa Conference was Pete Walker (junior, Red Oak) who was chosen as the men’s basketball player of the week.

Davis scores 48 points— Davis was sensational in earning the Most Valuable Performer at the league meet. Davis won the 60-meter dash (7.73 seconds), 200-meter dash (25.18), and 400-meter dash (57.14). She was also a part of the winning 4×200 meter relay team and the runner-up 4×400 meter relay team. The 4×200 meter team set a school record.

Decker dominates distance events— The 2015 conference cross country champion, Decker continued his league dominance on the track last weekend, winning the 3000 meters (8 minutes, 37.43 seconds) and 5000 meters (14:32.80). He also finished runner-up in the mile (4:19.14). He was named the Most Valuabler Performer on the track.

With hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships March 11-12 in Grinnell, a select group of Central athletes are slotted to compete at the Wis.-Platteville Last Chance on Friday, March 4 and the Pointers Qualifier at Wis.-Stevens Point on Saturday, March 5.

Walker leads Dutch scoring attack to title — Walker scored 70 points last week as Central won a trio of games on the road to win the Iowa Conference tournament title. A career-high 30 against Loras helped ignite the run for the Dutch. A 20-point effort in the final at Wartburg helped Central clinch a spot in the NCAA tournament.

Central takes the court Friday night at 8 p.m. for the first round of the NCAA tourney against St. Thomas (Minn.) in St. Paul, Minnesota.
