Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa City Council met in special session on Monday at Noon to vote on a single item, the ballot language for the upcoming LOST vote special election to be held May 3, 2016.

The ballot language reads:

The city council initially approved ballot language for the May 3, 2016 election on February 16, 2016 as noted in the attached resolution. Since that time, the city has been advised by legal counsel to consider amending the approved language to provide further specificity for the voters.

The change in the language is noted below in bold and underline:

75% for construction of a Recreation and Early Childhood Education facility, until all project debt obligations are met, or in the event of a surplus or if local option sales and services tax bonds are not issued for a Recreation and Early Childhood Education facility, for any lawful purpose.
25% for annual street construction, sanitary or storm sewer projects; construction and maintenance of recreation facilities; capital expenditures for construction, renovation, fixtures and maintenance of public facilities; capital equipment purchases.
0% for property tax relief.

Ballot language must be submitted to Mahaska County by February 26, 2016.

The measure passed with Burnett, Caligiuri, Jimenez, Walling and Yates voting yes, while Ver Steeg voted no.
