Oskaloosa, Iowa – Oskaloosa high school football has played through a couple of tough seasons, and at Tuesday nights Oskaloosa School Board meeting, it was announced by Oskaloosa Superintendent Russ Reiter that head coach Mike Sterner had resigned.

Reiter spoke with Oskaloosa News after the meeting and said that steps are now being taken to fill the open position. “I think the big thing is, Mike’s resignation and what he’s done for the program. He’s been a member of the football program for a long, long time.”

Reiter explained that Sterner will remain as a member of the coaching staff.

“Our ultimate goal is to hire the best person for the job,” explained Reiter, who said that hiring a coach that is part of the staff at the school is something “we would like to [do]”.

“Any time we have head coaching positions, whatever sport, we like to have those individuals in the hallways, in the classrooms where they can work with kids,” explained Reiter.

Sterner will remain in the classroom at OHS, and will continue to be the Head Track Coach.
