MAHASKA COUNTY – Family Nurse Practitioner Robyn Griffiths, ARNP-C, has joined Mahaska Health Partnership as a Hospitalist.

“Hospitalists are solely dedicated to caring for patients in the hospital,” Hospitalist Medical Director Anne Whitis, MD, explained. “We act as a patient’s primary care provider during their inpatient stay, and then turn care back to their primary care provider upon discharge.”

Griffiths works alongside Dr. Whitis; Ben Oldson, DO; Deb Buckler, DO; and Lisa Ruckman, MD. “Through our partnership, we are able to have a hospitalist available 24/7, which is supported by Robyn’s role on the floor.

“Hospitalists round on patients every day, checking on their progress and making treatment adjustments, if needed. We are also available to field questions from patients and their families. Due to our fulltime commitment to the Inpatient setting, we are able to more immediately respond to changes in patient’s circumstances and needs,” Dr. Whitis said.

Griffiths obtained her Family Nurse Practitioner accreditation from Graceland University in Independence, MO, after attending the University of Iowa for her Master’s of Science in Nursing. “I wanted to be more involved in healthcare decisions for my patients,” Griffiths shared. “Having a more active role in my patient’s outcomes enhances my passion for nursing. I believe it is an honor and privilege to care for people.”

Prior to obtaining her Nurse Practitioner Certification, Griffiths worked as an inpatient, clinical and surgical nurse throughout her career. “Nurses are very important in healthcare. I want my patients to know I have the same goals they do. I want to work with them to help them return to their optimal level of health and well-being,” Griffiths expanded.

“I’m excited to practice as a hospitalist because we don’t have the distractions of an office practice so we are able to provide personalized, high quality care in the hospital setting where we can focus on only hospitalized patients to improve outcomes.”

For an opportunity to meet Griffiths, attend MHP’s Business After Hours on Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 4-6 pm in the Cedar Bluff Learning Center (ent. #3) on the MHP campus.
