Theatre Group Prepares for Annual Fremont Lions’ Play

FREMONT – Members of the Fremont Lions Club theatre group are busy with rehearsals for their annual play. The cast of “Virgil Wins The Lottery” will present the show Feb. 12, 13 and 14 at Fremont School.

The play is another hillbilly story of Virgil (Shannon Bethune), a simple country boy, who buys a lottery ticket. Everyone dreams of striking it rich by winning the lottery except Virgil’s wife, Margaret (Jeanene Calhoun). Margaret thinks it’s a waste of money until Virgil wins the $10,000 Lickskillit lottery.

As soon as Margaret and Virgil get the news, Virgil quits his job, they join the posh (well, posh for Lickskillit) social club and overnight start living in high cotton. And then they get more news: They didn’t actually win the $10,000 lottery. Shamefully exposed, Margaret and Virgil start eatin’ crow and learn that life is good, with or without the winnings, and then they get the biggest surprise of all.

The cast is filled with a number of returning actors including Sandy Eckley, Janice West, Bill Ward, Sharon Van Ringelestein, Mark Hansen, Paul Horn and Christina Kime. Also Dollie Horn, Sherri Baxter, Ryan Keep, and Gary Mitterer. A number of “others” may make cameos in this year’s production. Directors for the production are Scott Bethune and Mindy Archer.

Show times will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 12-13 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Seating is limited, but tickets are available at the door.
