Rex Anthony “Tony” Pace, 52, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, December 4, 2015, at the MHP Emergency Room in Oskaloosa. Tony was born July 21, 1963, at Rochester, Minnesota, the son of Carmen and Audrey Reimers Pace.
Tony graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1981. While in high school he was on the Golf team. He went on to earn his degree in Secondary Education from William Penn College in Oskaloosa in 1986. He was a member of the TKE Fraternity and the on the Golf team at William Penn. While in college Tony worked at Happy Joe’s and Dr. Salamis in Oskaloosa.
On September 1, 1990, Tony was united in marriage to Sheri Smith at Knoxville. To this union three sons were born, Brady, Jared, and Trent.
Tony worked as an insurance agent for Reserve National Insurance Company for over 26 years. He was also a substitute teacher in Oskaloosa and the surrounding communities for many years.
Tony enjoyed golfing, fishing, history, and trivia. He had a love of music and movies, which he enjoyed sharing with his boys. Tony enjoyed watching sports, he was especially fond of the Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He will also be remembered for always having pets around, he was especially fond of dogs. He enjoyed the outdoors, he made several trips to the Cedar Bluff area to hike with his sons. As a final act of generosity Tony was a tissue donor.
His family includes his three sons: Brady Pace, Jared Pace and Trent Pace, all of Oskaloosa; his parents, Carmen and Audrey Pace of Oskaloosa; two sisters: Tracy (& Jerry) Vanderhorst of West Bend, Iowa and Tari (& Stan) Van Wyk of Pella; a brother, Brett (& Amy) Pace of Keystone, Iowa; former wife and close friend, Sheri Pace of Oskaloosa; nieces and nephews: Kyle Vanderhorst, Kayla Hannah, Kara Northway, Brennen Pace, Landen Pace, Megan Pace, Ryan Van Wyk, Lauren Van Wyk, and Reagan Van Wyk; and two great nieces, Nora Vanderhorst and Mae Vanderhorst; and two dogs, Flynn and Jax.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Bryan Latchaw officiating.
As was Tony’s wish his body has been cremated.
A private family burial will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Tuesday evening from 5-7 to greet friends and relatives.
