Family Escapes Early Morning Blaze

Oskaloosa, Iowa – One Oskaloosa family escaped their burning home with their lives on Monday morning.

A heater is the suspected culprit of a fire, which was called in at 5:43am at the residence of Teresa Latchum, located at 320 North 5th St in Oskaloosa.

Twelve Oskaloosa firefighters and 4 New Sharon firefighters battled the blaze for just over 3 hours, with firefighting units back at the station by 8:52am.

The home is considered a total loss including the contents inside.

Latchum and her son escaped the blaze unhurt along with their two dogs.
