Joyce McMullen, 75, of Oskaloosa passed away Tuesday morning, November 24, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Joyce Elaine McMullen, daughter of Everett Owen and Rachel Corene (Dickerson) Silvers, was born July 7, 1940, at the home of her parents in Beacon, Iowa.

As a youngster, Joyce attended Garfield Elementary School and went on to graduate Oskaloosa High School in 1958. She lived in Springfield, MO for a time before returning to Oskaloosa.

Joyce initially worked at Mahaska Bottling Company and also attended Indian Hills Community College, where she received her training in metallurgy. After finishing her education, she began working at Clow Valve Company testing metal. She remained at Clow for over 20 years before retiring in 1998. At that time she began assisting her husband with their stuffed animal vending machine business.

In 1990, she met the love-of-her-life, Wayne Lee McMullen. December 13, 1997, she married Wayne in Oskaloosa where they made their home.

In her free time, Joyce enjoyed spending it with family and friends and researching family history. Joyce also liked to paint ceramics, knit, play pitch, bowl, and feed the neighborhood wildlife.

Joyce was a member of the First Assembly of God in Oskaloosa and its O.K. Bunch, she was also a long-time member of the Moose Lodge and the Oskaloosa Bowling League.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne of Oskaloosa; her sons and daughters-in-law: Terry (& Vic) Carruthers of Omaha, NE, Robert Carruthers of Oskaloosa and Darrin (& Wanda) Carruthers of Burlington, Iowa; six grandchildren; her brothers and sister-in-law: Jim (& Linda) Silvers of Oskaloosa and Ronny Silvers of Oskaloosa; and a brother-in-law, Clarence McKee of Oskaloosa.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a sister, Gail McKee.

Funeral services for Joyce will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday morning, November 28, at First Assembly of God in Oskaloosa with Pastor Mike Dotson officiating.
A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 a.m., in the Kid’s Church room before the service.
Burial will be in Henness Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Friday at the Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God or MHP Hospice Services Serenity House.
