Jimmy Del Lewis, 58, of Beacon, died Monday, November 16, 2015. He was born November 10, 1957, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mary Steele Lewis.

Early on Jimmy owned and operated Lewis and Lewis Recycling in Rose Hill with his father Paul. He later worked for Manatts Asphalt, Highway 92 Walnut and then Wright Tree Service. For the last several years Jimmy has been a self-employed woodworker. He was a very talented woodworker.

Jimmy earned his B.A. in Industrial Technology from William Penn University in 2014. While in college, he earned the designation of Tutor of the Year in 2013, for the help he gave other students in math. In his younger days, he was a heavy weight golden gloves boxing champion.

Jimmy enjoyed fishing, woodworking, attending bible study groups at Beacon Methodist Church. In recent years he was baptized at the Evangelical Church in Oskaloosa.

His family includes his two daughters and their husbands: Victoria (& Chad) Gates of Oskaloosa, and Jessica (& Ryan) Bjornson of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren: Kiara, Ashlyn, and Eva Bjornson; his father, Paul Lewis of Beacon; two sisters, Diane (& Brett) Else of Oskaloosa, and Denise Feeney (& Pat LaFollette) of Beacon; two brothers: Mike (& Ellen) Lewis of Rose Hill and Bill (& Jennifer) Lewis of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.

As was Jimmy’s wish, his body has been cremated.
Visitation will begin Friday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Friday evening.
Memorials may be made to the Lewis Family.
