Roelofina Groenenboom, 95, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, November 15, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born March 28, 1920, the daughter of Jerfaas and Judith Wanders Van Leinden.

Roelofina made her Profession of Faith at an early age at First Reformed Church in Pella. On February 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to Gysbert Groenenboom at Pella.

Following their marriage they began farming in the Eddyville and Sigourney areas. In addition to tending to her family and home, Roelofina helped Gysbert in the daily operation and management of the farm. She also worked for the hot lunch program at the Eddyville Community School for many years.

On January 25, 1986, Gysbert died. Following Gysbert’s death, Rolly stayed on the farm and continued to manage the operation for the next 14 years.

In 2000, she moved to Oskaloosa. She was an active member of Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa where she sang in the choir, was active in ladies groups, and was in charge of refreshments for Vacation Bible School for many years. She also volunteered at the snack bar at the Mahaska Hospital and at the Oskaloosa Ecumenical Cupboard.

She was very talented at crocheting and quilting, all of her children and grandchildren have a quilt that she made for them.

Her family includes her three sons, Jim (& Barbara) Groenenboom of Davenport, Keith (& Patty) Groenenboom of Eddyville, and Dennis (& Scott Hartsook) Groenenboom of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (& Bernie) Ver Meer of Pella; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Rolly was preceded in death by her parents; and two siblings in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday morning after 11 in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6– 8 p.m. Wednesday to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Central Reformed Church Music Programs or Oskaloosa Ecumenical Cupboard.
