Carolyn Briggs, 79, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Montezuma, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Carolyn Lou Briggs, daughter of Ralph and Velma (Gilliland) Mitchell, was born on April 12, 1936 north of Montezuma.
Carolyn graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1954. Carolyn was married to Wendell Hook and had two daughters, Carol Lynn and Beth Ann. They were later divorced.
On April 8, 1961, Carolyn was united in marriage to Wavern Briggs. To this union one son was born, Lee. They resided in Montezuma where they owned and operated Briggs Radio and T.V. until they retired in the Spring of 1991.
Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Blakely-Stevens American Legion Post Auxiliary, and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Grubb of Albia; son, Lee Briggs of Des Moines; grandchildren: Kurtis (& Cindy) Grubb of Oskaloosa, Angie (& Jay) Howrey of Fremont, Michelle (& Kerry) Sytsma of Montezuma, and Hilliary Jo Jones; and several great-grandchildren.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wavern Briggs in 2010; and a daughter, Beth Jones in 1996.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be held in the Masonic IOOF Cemetery in Montezuma.
