Anna Ryken, 94, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, November 9, 2015, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born July 30, 1921, at Ogilvie, Minnesota, the daughter of Cornelius and Aleda Stam De Ronde.

Following school, Anna helped on the family farm. She later went to work for the old Continental Overall factory in Oskaloosa for several years.

On December 1, 1943, she was united in marriage to Elmer G. Ryken south of Eddyville. Elmer died in 1990. Following her marriage to Elmer, Anna stayed home to care for her family and home. In the late 1960’s, Anna went to work cleaning houses for people in Oskaloosa. She did that for nearly 20 years.

Anna was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa where she was active in Ladies Bible Hour. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, walking, reading, and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Anna’s family includes her five children and their spouses: Shirley (& Richard) VerSteegh of Oskaloosa, Don (& Cheri) Ryken of Grant Park, Illinois, John (& Delores) Ryken of New Sharon, Mary (& Roger) Lange of Lowell, Indiana, and Martha (& Jerry) Uitermarkt of Pella; thirteen grandchildren; forty three great grandchildren; one great great grandson; a sister in law, Dorothy De Ronde of Oskaloosa; and a brother in law, Tunis Hol of Oskaloosa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and a sister in law: Kryn De Ronde and Jake & Margaret De Ronde; and six sisters and brothers in law: Johanna De Ronde, Kay & John Van Weelden, Jennie De Ronde, Elizabeth Hol, Wilma and Jerry Deppe, and a sister in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Dale Visser officiating.
A prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. in the basement of the church.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, November 10, 2015 after 11 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Oskaloosa Christian School or First Christian Reformed Church.
