Roy “Duke” Danner

Roy “Duke” Danner, 65, of What Cheer, died September 11, 2010 at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 15 at the Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer. Burial will be in the Garrett Cemetery near Delta. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Roy Junior Danner was born May 14, 1945 in What Cheer, Iowa, the son of Leroy and Eleanor Rea Danner. He attended the What Cheer High School and in 1968 he joined the U.S. Army where he served as a heavy equipment operator in the Vietnam conflict. On June 16, 1979 Duke was united in marriage to Deb Snook, to this union five children were born, Mark, Corey, Travis, Stacey and Monica. He worked as a CNA for several years at the Knoxville Veterans Home and the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. Duke enjoyed figure 8 racing and any event that might allow his family to gather. He is preceded in death by his father, a sister Connie Sue Danner as well as a brother Bob Danner. Duke is survived by his mother Eleanor Danner of What Cheer; four sons: Mark and Miranda Danner of Oskaloosa, Corey and Carmen Danner of Oskaloosa, Travis and Stacia Danner of Delta, and Todd and Lori Danner of Rock Island, Illinois; his three daughters: Stacey (Joe Gatton) Danner of Oskaloosa, Monica (Kevin Hudson) of Oskaloosa, and Teri (Tony) Mayhugh of Rock Island, Illinois. He also leaves behind five brothers, six sisters, fifteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
